Sulphate powder pillows measure sulphate, which drives scaling in reverse osmosis and cooling systems, feeds sulphate-reducing bacteria in anaerobic conditions and attacks concrete. It is also regulated in drinking water, where high levels taste bitter.

Why does sulphate matter in reverse osmosis?
Calcium and barium sulphate scales are among the least soluble met on membranes, so the sulphate figure sets how far the plant can be pushed.
Why use powder pillows instead of tablets?
A pillow is a pre-measured dose in a sealed sachet, so there is nothing to weigh out and no part-used tablet strip. Where a method is only offered in powder form, the pillow is what the instrument expects.
How should powder pillows be stored?
Keep them cool and dry in their sealed sachets, work through the oldest box first, and open a pillow only at the moment you dose the sample.
