Alkalinity P Tablets (TC Method)

Overview

Alkalinity P TC tablets measure P alkalinity, the portion read to the phenolphthalein end point that covers carbonate and hydroxide. It is the figure used on boiler water and on lime-softened supplies, where the split between P and M alkalinity tells you which alkalinity species are actually present.

Frequently asked questions

When would I measure P alkalinity instead of M?
P alkalinity is used when you need to know how much of the alkalinity is carbonate and hydroxide, typically on boiler water or after lime dosing. Most routine potable and pool work uses the M value.

Photometer grade or rapid grade — which do I need?
Photometer grade is formulated for instruments that read a cuvette. If you work with a visual comparator or colour disc, ask us for the rapid-dissolving grade instead.

How should the tablets be stored?
Keep them sealed, cool and dry, and work through the oldest strip first. Once a strip is opened the tablets take up moisture, so use them promptly.
