Magnesium tablets measure magnesium hardness, normally worked out alongside calcium so that the two halves of total hardness can be separated. Magnesium matters where silica and magnesium together drive scale in boilers, and in agriculture and bottling where the ionic balance of a water is specified.

How is magnesium hardness usually determined?
Magnesium is the part of total hardness that is not calcium, so it is normally reported by measuring total and calcium hardness and taking the difference, or by a dedicated magnesium test.
Photometer grade or rapid grade — which do I need?
Photometer grade is formulated for instruments that read a cuvette. If you work with a visual comparator or colour disc, ask us for the rapid-dissolving grade instead.
How should the tablets be stored?
Keep them sealed, cool and dry, and work through the oldest strip first. Once a strip is opened the tablets take up moisture, so use them promptly.
